So I didn't go to GD this year as I had other commitments and therefore couldn't make it. After seeing some of the pics from the day around the net it seems like I missed a great day. Now there has been alot of disgruntled people that entered the Demons after the Spanish team won a good haul of the trophies.
This is a question then do you agree with teams coming over and entering our GD when they have their own?
If you have a view then speak openly about it here don't just answer yes or no give a reasoned expalnation o your answer. Personally for my own part I don't mind I think that it can generate even better efforts from our own painters to achieve the goal of taking one or more of the hotly contested Demons, it certainly will make me think hard and put alot more effort into whatever I produce for next years competition. So what is your stanpoint do you think it is right, is it good or bad for the UK GD?

I think it's fair for them to enter because just because they come from somewhere else doesn't mean they are better painters. As long as they stick to the rules it is a fair competition so I don't thinki it really matters.

I say let them come on over, if they want to compete, they shouldn't be stopped. The use the same minis and paints, so...why not? Its cool to have international people in the comps when i think in the 80's and 90's gmaes day was predominantly entered by fellas from the UK.

All's fair in Love, war & Golden Demons, I don't see that it matters where you are from, as long as all the rules are followed, and no favoritism is entered into, because they have come so far to enter. Talent is talent no matter where you are from!
For instance I go to a Rockabilly weekender in Hemsby near Yarmouth each year and we get folks from the US, and as far as Japan coming, and each time there's a Jiving competition held, to win a free pass at the next weekender, and believe me some of those foreign cats can dance, I mean really dance, and more often than not they win too, because they can dance better than everyone else who enters, not because they are foreign. Shouldn't make a difference who or where you are from, if you're good at something you deserve to win of you enter, and are judged the best.
Sorry about the example, but gives you a little more insight to me as well, yep I'm an Elvis lover......... ;D

Concur.GD UK is arguably the greatest happening miniature-wise in Europe.I think it's an honour that folx travel a thousand miles to participate. If they're good , they deserve to win, whatever their origins.MO.C

I cant really say... It does seem a bit silly to not just enter their ones. By leaving their own competitions, and coming to the Uks, they just further decrease the quality of their home competition.
Though, I dont really mind... As long as no-one comes to the NZ GD! As at our current low-level, everyone has a chance.

I am certainly pleased it is an international event. There are many countries that don't have the pleasure of a GW Games Day, although they may have regional competitions it's not the same. Scandanavia has none and enthusiasts here rely on GDUK, where would JRN be without the doors being open internationally. Likewise UK painters can travel to spain and up the ante, stretch the limits of mini painting... ...in all it bodes well for us lesser mortals, we get to feast our eyes, stretch our ambition and the perpetuation of the hobby is ensured

My opinion is the following: They are really damned good, no doubt about that. They spend loads of money and even more time and work on their hobby. That's all nice, respect.
A disturbing factor is that I'm pretty sure they know they are among the best, they have very good chances also on such tight competitions like the UK GD and the only thing why they travel to other GDs is to pick the trophies up to have the 10th Demon on their shelves. Which gets boring and annoying and in a way unfair... It may encourage some of the locals to try even harder, but at the same time it discourages a whole lot more of them.
I haven't been there either, I observed similar on our local hungarian contests. There are lot of people who think they are not good enough to compete against the bests, those usually win regularly. So there is a little group of painters with most of the wins and a bit bigger group that still tries to beat the core group. The rest says they have anyway no chances, so they don't even try.
I can understand those disgruntled people on UKGD, but I'm not sure it would be right to forbid spanish or other painters to participate. There are not many of those traveller-collectors... IMHO they should recognize the situation on their own and stay with their contests.
A good option would be if there was another large scale contest, like the GD, but not only for GW stuff, but really for painters, regardless of manufacturer.
