I had an arguement recently with someone about how to pronounce warg. I thought it was worg but he thought it was waarg. I just want to know which one it is.

If you look in the back of the LOTR book there are lists of words and the way they should be pronounced I think though your friend is correct.

I will follow the advice of the wise one, worg it is!
Don't they pronounce it worg in the films?

I think the only time it is said as waarg is when Saruman himself says to an Orc guy "Send out your 'waarg' riders" But I think that is the only time warg is actually spoken by anyone in the films as far as I remember! (YAY! 200th post!)

No, Gandalf said something about them somewhere. I suppose it's however the beings in middle-earth say it with their accents.

I'll check in a few books, although, I think you should change your original post and add a poll (if you can) saying:
How do you pronounce Warg? 'Worg' 'Waarg' Other (please specify) I don't!

i say worg simply because waarg sounds like your choking on an over sized grape

Saruman: *starts eating a large grape* Send out your *cough* *choke* waarg riders!

If I remember correctly from my history classes, Warg is an really old norwegian name for wolf (Varg). Tolkien have taken lots of inspiration from the northern lands, so It's possible that he transformed Varg into Warg (wolves aren't too different from wargs...). BTW, Varg is spoken pretty straightforward, but with a little pressure on the "r". Don't know if anybody cares, but this is my theory ;D
Cheers

LMAO Racssirt!! Methinks you're right mutantpotato, i recon he took it from some nordic language. In swedish it's pronounced with aa, not o, so i think it's waarg.me tuppence..

Mutantpotato that does make alot of sense Tolkien used alot of different influences when he created the whole Middle Earth concept and histories and languages so that is quite possibly true.

Suladan is most probably derived from Saladin, the king of the saracens (i think)
