Sadly, Steve Irwin was killed while filming an underwater documentary off the coast of Port Douglas. A stingray punctured his heart with its barb (spiky tail bit) His wife lives in a remote part of Tasmania and has not yet been contacted.
I didn't really watch his shows but I knew of his enthusiasm and love of nature, and when I first was told I actually asked who he was. That was because I haven't really watched anything involving him for years...
It's horrible that his wife does not even know... in fact, I do not even want to think about how she will be when she is toold the news...
You will be remembered across the globe mate.
R.I.P. Steve Irwin

I'm sorry for especially his family and his small child.
I didn't like his shows much, his style was always somewhat too intense for me, but undoubtely he delivered great pictures to the audience.

His son is only two months old!
And actually, when I came on, I'm surprised that this site didn't have the news!

A sad loss the man was passionate about wildlife and its preservation. I think though that playing with animals that are potentially dangerous then sooner or later it is going to hurt. The irony is that the sting ray is one of the most placid creatures in the sea. My thoughts are with his friends and family. A very great loss indeed.

I did not watch his shows much, but I managed to watch some episodes on Animal Planet. I was amazed by his passion, not too many people care about animals so passionate as he did. He was a colourful character, and I know that he will be missed.

I watched all of his shows. He is only the second Australian to be killed by a stingray? Thats ironic, as he frequently dealt with far more dangerous creatures. As said, at least he died doing what he loved.

So ironic... you'd have thought he'd have been eaten by a croc or a shark or something...

It's ok, school was full of rubbish jokes and stuff. Someone said when they first heard the news they were singing the TV theme of Stingray (not sure if anyone knows of it) all day, which I thought was just cruel.
