I painted these space marines for a painting competition. Because of limited time, I had to rush it a bit and they didn't completely turn out the way I wanted them to. Yesterday, the day of the competition, I woke up with a bloody migraine, so I couldn't go to the competition. So here they are anyway. I don't plan on improving them, because I don't really like painting space marines. But I would appreciate your thoughts on how I can improve my (speed) painting and base-making.

the only thing i would have worked on more is the bolters as the rest of the minis are wicked , they have a great depth of color and shading and they look like good solid armour plating ... and if thats your version of speed painting , give us more details !! times etc and methods you have me very interested..

Great job Magie, nowt wrong with them at all, in fact I'd be proud of them if they were mine. Just possibly sharpen up the black on the bolters and you've cracked it!!

Yep I think you've nailed them, I agree with James about the bolters if the black were sharper then they would pop a bit more, I also think that the Ultramarine is the weakest of the three it doesn't have the depth of colour that the Dark Angel/ Salamander or the red and black one have. But SM's are boring I have only painted a handful myself. I love to see well painted SM's but the patience and time needed to make them look good is hard to keep up.
Well done.

Thanks for your replies. I agree that some of the shading could use some work. The bolters were really last minute drybrushing, so they don't really look that good. I painted the blue one with more dilution in the paints, and for me that always results in minimal highlights/shading even after many layers. The others are painted with less diluted paint (hence the increased painting speed), and at this moment it's easier for me to get stronger shading/highlighting that way.
@lc: The total time I spend on these, including bases, is about 1,5 days. Which, for me, is quite fast. I used less dilution, with more intermediate colour steps, and layering. And what also helps is painting the base colour with foundation paints.
Thanks!

The Salamander is my fav. I don't have much to add with regards to critiques other than what was mentioned earlier. Great work in such a short period of time. I hope you are feeling better with regards to your headache!
