Hey guys! So for the first time since I started painting, I've entered a local painting competition! I am painting the new Tyranid Trygon and i need help with a colour scheme! I am picking the model up on the 16th and have until 4 pm on the 17th to finish and make it to the store. Just to be safe and offer some practice, i have 5 Tyranid Termagants that i can use. You can see the Trygon hereSo far i have these ideas: 1. Grey Skin/purple carapace/ yellow eyes/ green spores 2. Black skin/ red with black stripes carapace/ white eyes/ green spores If you guys have any ideas, let me know! For the first time (at least when it comes to painting) this isn't just for me, and i'm actually nervous about it. The winner gets a cool little trophy and their model will be displayed on the Games Workshop website!

Wow that's a massive model. I guess it will be quite a challenge to paint that within the time frame. I wouldn't even be able to finish the basecoat! Colour-wise I would suggest not to use black for the skin, it is really difficult to highlight black, especially in that time frame. Besides the skin of those tyranids is always very nicely detailed and muscular. You could easily achieve a great effect with a light basecoat and some washes. I like the ' red with black stripes carapace' idea. Maybe you could combine it with a sepia/ dim yellow colour skin, and have it look a bit snake like. Light grey skin would be nice as well. I would make the eyes look as lizardy as possible. So probably yellow, maybe a little green depending on the colourscheme of the body. I'm not so sure what spores are so I couldn't make a suggestion for that. Anyway, just enjoy yourself It's a very cool model, and I'm sure you can give it a stunning paintjob.

I think your right about the black. While looking over my other models, i noticed i use a lot of red, so i figure i might as well stick with what i'm good at, and that seems to be reds. So he's gonna have red skin with maybe a black carapace. I like the idea of adding the dim yellow, so i might try adding those as stripes on the black. If i highlight the carapace up to a good middle grey then add the stripes, it might work. To the testing table!

With such a short period of time to work with, I'd go with what you know; red and black. Looking forward to seeing what you can do!
