Hey all. I didn't want anyone to start thinking that maybe I had forgotten about this or what I supposed to do. I just had quite a few other projects that I absolutely had to finish and get out of the way first. Since I'm nearing completion on the last one, I figured I better get my butt in gear with this. I've done a bit of reading on the Stormboyz, so I think I have a pretty good idea on how they should go together. I've found a few photos that seem to be a decent reference and give me a general idea on how they should be painted. That being said, if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, advice or whatever on how these are being painted (i.e. I did something wrong or really screwed up), please feel free to let me know. I'm not fragile and I can handle honest critiques. This is just a "test run" to make sure that I'm going about this the right way. It's just the basic blocking in and basecoats so far. If this one turns out all right, then I'll just assembly line the rest. Thanks!

Great skin tones, the mini looks promising at this stage I don't think we can really go far wrong with Orcs, the more Motley Crue the better!

Thanks for the comments all. I've gotten some more painting done (no pics just yet), but I did have a question before I go any further.
According to what I've read, Stormboyz are allowed only certain types of weapons: sluggas and choppas. If I understand it correctly, sluggas are guns and choppas are axes, knives or chainsaw swords. Yes or no?
And, if someone would be so kind, could you please explain (or at least point to) the definitions of shootas, sluggas, etc.
I do apologize for all of the (probably silly) questions, but I really don't know very much about WH and I'm just trying to make sure that I'm getting it right.
Many thanks.

i think that sluggas are pistols, shooters are normal guns and choppas are some sort of large CC weapon.
hope this helps

Ok, this is more of an "I am working on this" update than anything else. I do know that the arms aren't quite flush against the body, but this is the first time I've tried pinning and this one was a practice piece (tips or advice on pinning and getting things to line up right would be appreciated ). Still working on the paint job, so some areas are going to look kind of rough. Still, if anything looks out place, please let me know.

Looks good so far, are you going to drill out the gun barrel?

Pinning is my personal pet hate but this is how i do it.... 1st, make a mark with a bradle on the main body where i want te pin to be, this stops the drillbit from slipping. 2nd, take my time with a vicepin and .8 mm drill bit and drill about 3mm deep, this is more than enough (2.1 loose my temper as the drill bit breaks and sticks into my thumb.... 2.3 loose my temper as it's my last drill bit and it's blunt, taking 15 minutes to make a dent!) 3rd. Cut a piece of .8mm brass wire just over 3mm long and put it into the hole, it should stick out just enough to be able to remove it again! 4th Practice lining up the parts 5th put a little red paint on the end of the wire and quickly join the parts 6th Check for a red mark on the appendage to join, if none retry 7th Now i have a red mark use a bradle again, you really don't want the drill bit to be off at this point 8th Drill about 3mm 9th Remove original piece of wire and discard 10th Cut a piece of wire approx 5mm , put it into one of the holes and check if the parts join up properly 11th if a success superglue the wire into a hole then super glue into the other... Voila! I use super glue gel for this as it seems to work better than ultra thin super glue.
btw..nice orc!

Thanks for the comments. Looks good so far, are you going to drill out the gun barrel? Yes I am. @jnr: Good advice; I'll give it a try (and hopefully avoid 2.1).

Good looking ork! I really like the bandage on the arm. What colors did you use for that?

Good looking ork! I really like the bandage on the arm. What colors did you use for that? Thanks. I basecoated it with Pure White, then took a wash of Bone Shadow (6:1 paint/water) and gave it a few coats until I liked how it looked.

I thought RMS Bone Shadow was more of a gray and less of a yellow. Thanks!

Huh. There must be a bit of a color shift with the photo. I thought RMS Bone Shadow was more of a gray and less of a yellow. Thanks! It's kind of a greyish brown, but for some reason it is coming out a yellowish/dirty white color, even IRL; no idea why. Here's the latest pic. I have it put together and now it's just a matter of finishing things up, touch-ups and bringing up the highlights in a few areas. Of course, any advice or feedback is appreciated to help make this (and the future ones) better.

Great work on the checks--you nailed those. No critiques other than what you already know--more highlights. Chant the mantra....

After working on the test ork and having a pretty good idea how things go together, etc, I started in on the 5 for the project. I am varying things a little - different shades of skin and pants; things like that - so here's just a couple. Mostly, I'm wondering what people think and see if anyone has any advice on any areas where things look like they're going wrong. Of course, there's still quite a bit of work to do: touch-ups, highlighting, etc. Here are the heads. Is the checkered pattern too much or is it okay that way?

Looking good, man! The checks on the helmet are a bit over the top for me, but that's personal and I think it is line with regards to the fluff--orks are really known for their sense of style. Really my only critique would be to rust up the metallics a bit more.

Thanks, all.
I haven't started in on rusting the metallics quite yet since I'm trying to read up on how to do it properly. Once I have better idea on that, then I'll rust 'em up.
