Ok here is the start two orks with 'eavy weapons. I haven't really done anything to them yet, since I need to discuss how to paint them with Charley. I have a question too, how uniformd should a group of Orks be? Not as uniformd as an Empire (long live the Emperor) I supose. Thanks for lookin', Razh

Orks don't need to be uniform in the sense of all wearing the same colours. But you can keep them looking coherent by using a muted palette. Think earthy colours and darker reds etc.

Thanks Raccy and DR.E So earthy colours then, like brown, grey, black and beige? adn for warpaint blue or red? i guess the whole unit should have the same colour on their Warpaint As you have noticed i'm not an expert when it comes to 40K Orks Thanks, Razh

I'll defer to Tim for the final word, but I was under the impression we were doing greenskin (various shades allowed), blue warpaint (optional), rusty metallics, earthy tones for the clothing (which would include browns, beige, black and gray) and yellow/black checkering (optional as well). Contrasting accents are to be red.

I think you summed it up pretty well Jabber, stick to the guidelines above and you won't go far wrong mate.

Just doing some of them should be fine, I think that in reality that not all members of a warband would go for warpaint and it will make a nice break in the green tone of the unit to have some and not all with war paint on.

I have finally started to paint. But I tried a new way (for me )to paint the skin, and i'm not happy with it. so I'll probably go back to my normal way on the next ork not very good, as you can see Razh

I personally like the brown shading on the skin and think it looks cool, I have done a similar thing with the Ltd edition FW Slaan mage priest recently, and was very happy with the results. A bit more highlighting to bring out definition slightly and this will help IMHO.
Great start matey!

Great as usual Andrè! I like the brown shading, and the blending. I would suggest two thin brownish washes to make the difference between the darkest and the lightest point smaller. Then highlight the skin, and finally a very thin glaze to make the colours blend together. But who am I to give you advice? The skin looks awesome, and it's you that should give me advice ;D

Thanks Orkydave and Mikkel I really appreciate you comments and advice. You saved him from getting his skin stripped off. Surely i 'll give you advice if you want, but you are the better painter of us two, Mikkel. Thanks again for the advice, Razh

I agree that it's looking really good.
Out of curiosity, you mentioned that you were trying a new way to do skin; would you mind telling how you used to do it and what you're trying now?

Thanks hinton. This is how I used to do. First I basecoat of Catachan Green(CG). Then Shade it with CG mixed with Black. then Catachan Green again. after that I started to highlight by adding camo green to the Catachan Greenand and do so untill I get pure camo green. And last a mix of camo green and bubonic brown( idon't remember, it could have been bronzed flesh too) and add just a little white to this. this is what it looks like then(but with no purple ): What I did now was to work with snot green mixed with browns. and use more washes of brown. then Highlight with goblin green mixed with bestial brown. then goblin green and snakebite leather, and then add some bleach bone to this. I used this guide:http://oz.games-workshop.com/community/goldendemon/hobby/ork_nob_painting.htm But I was so stupid i didn't copy the pics so I didn't see what it should look like. Razh

You saved him from getting his skin stripped off. Great! I think it would have been a pity to repaint the skin. but you are the better painter of us two, Mikkel. Wow, thanks. I think both of us are on the same level. Your minis is great, and my minis is (hopefully ) great too. But I don't see it that way. Painters have their own unique style, and therefore you can't really judge them. I allways try not to think "is that guy better than me?". But I have to admit thinking: "damn, I wish I were as good as Jakob Nielsen" ;D

Thanks everyone! today when I painted some metal on him I was clumsy, and slipped with the brush on his face!(though just a small part of it). So instead of repaint it I decided to make some warpaint. Cheers, Razh

Well done Rahz--take the mistake and work it to your advantage. The shoulder guard is looking excellent--nice and rusty. I might suggest hitting it with some mithril silver highlights on along the edges of the punctured areas.

Well done Rahz--take the mistake and work it to your advantage. As Bob Ross always said: "We don't make mistakes; we just have happy accidents." Looking really good so far, razh. Nice work on the checkered pattern.
