Some time ago I was toying with the idea of starting a paint for charity scheme, well I think it is about time to actually start something up and I was thinking of doing something for the Children In Need appeal aiming for next years event. I konw that it is a fair way off but that gives us plenty of time to recruit, decide what to do actually paint it and get it collected and auctioned off.
So thoughts please.

I would be happy to participate in this. The idea is nice, and it's nice that the money goes to somebody that really needs them.
If my painting skills are needed, I would be happy to be a part of this. I would suggest painting a squad. Then we all can paint a single mini each, and then collect them into a squad.

Thanks Mikkel, I will take all comers in this venture as long as the painting is to a reasonable standard, a squad or two is a good idea, and certainly would work. Obviously if we get a few takers on the project then maybe we might have to think a little bigger but for now a squad is a good baseline to start with.

I'll join the crew! I know I haven't been painting for a while and I normally don't get chance to paint much (school etc.) but if we can get prepared for the Christmas holidays then I can help!!

Don't forget Raccy that this is being planned for next year's event so you will have plenty of time to paint a mini.

Count me in, i'm short on suggestions at the moment but a squad sounds good... go for something v popular that would attract bids on ebay.. ... the more experinced painters could do the banner, boss etc , those with less time the troops and dogfacedboy could paint a nice white room to put them in

This is a good start, I would like to get a few more involved I think I am going to send out a general don't forget our forums e-mail to all our members and see if we can't get a few of them to post again and then hopefully get involved in this but if not we certainly have enough to start with. Currently popular are the new Eldar minis, the Empire is set for a Overhaul with the army box being released soon and the general release after Christmas. For Lotr there is the Ruin of Arnor due for release early next year too so there is alot to go for. I am thinking that GW might be the best one to go with as the minis are easily obtainable and the most recognised worldwide. I would love to do a Rackham or Reaper or PP themed squad but I think for maximum effect GW still brings home the cash. What would be good would be if we could do a squad for each system Warhammer, 40K and Lotr but that might be a little bit ambitious.

GW is the money choice, and the most played systems choice, and as you say the only one available readily to us all. Start with one unit at a time and see how far we can get.

I've been thinking a bit about this idea today.
I think the idea of making something for each game system is good. butWhat do you think about making three small armies? Like a War party (300pts I think) for LOTR a Border patrol for WH (500pts) and... well I don't know what its called in 40k since I don't play it.
I guess It might be to expensive if we just are four or five (since some of us don't even have a job).
It was just an idea I got, what do you think about it?

@razhburz: I think an army would be a bit too much, and three armies would really be too much ;D
I have some suggestions for the scuad:
1. Ork Nobz We can paint a squad of 40k ork nobz. We can have between 5 and 10 nobz (i think), and that suits the amount of people that have joined so far. The orks is as popular as ever, and we have good chances at ebay. The ting about orks is that they don't care how they look, they just strap wathever pice of metal the find onto their body, and orks comes in every tone of grren. This is ideal as every painter has their own painting style.
2. Ork Kommandos This is a new set with new minis, and then we get better chances to sell them. Pretty much everything else is written above.
3. Orks/Goblins The orks and golbins have just gotten many new minis, and they are (and have allways been) one of the most popular concepts GW have created. I'm thinking a ork boyz unit or a unit of night gobbos.
I have not chosen eldar or empire as a suggestion. These are "clean races", and their armour/colour scheme have to be the same in every mini. These races do not offer much diversity or creativity. In the orks/orcs races the armour do not have to be the same in every mini and you can have different colours in every mini etc. And it doesent matter if every mini is not the same, and this is ideal if many different painters gather a squad together.

I think this is a great idea, with the number of good painters on here then it should go rather damned well. Always like to see the usage of the hobby for such a selfless act. I know these are done it varying times by various forums but - here's two that I know of. One is complete, the other on the go. Very impressive too; warhammer.org.uk/PhP/viewtopic.php?t=19733 <-- Finished warhammer.org.uk/PhP/viewtopic.php?t=21913 <--- On going Both have some top painters involved, the one that is finished they did very well on their final total. As you can see, they did bloody well. With this in mind, I would stick to either characters - special or otherwise; or small units/squads per painter. Unfortunately I will not be able to commit myself to this endeavour. The reason being that I hope to be in university by then, I fully expect my painting time will be cut so very short - even more than it is now. I would not commit myself to something if I am not confident I could and will be able to keep it up. I wish you all the best of luck and I'll keep an eye out. Good idea Tim. KU

Ok Orcs are fine by me if every one else agrees, and the idea of the commandos is also a good one. I was a member of the original paint aid scheme on Cmon and that id rather well. I think with the amount of members that have pledged their support we should be able to do something reasonable. Adam thanks for the encouragement.

@razhburz: I think an army would be a bit too much, and three armies would really be too much ;D ahh... That was what I thought, but if we were 30 active members it could have worked Orcs and gobbos is fine with me too Razh

I hope we can get Anders (ritual) joined. He is one of my favourite painters, and his painting skills would be of much use in this paintation.
As King Ulrik said, characters could be fun. The new goblins have lots of new heroes, and we could possibly paint many heroes like they did in King Ulrik's link.

A well thought out idea, i'm all for it... we could have a paint an orc like Tim School on loine and make a cohesive group and any deviation wouldn't be so noticable Soz Tim, you've enough to do i'm sure, anyhows.. orcs it is then

anyhows.. orcs it is then I'm up for anything. But lately I have gotten a liking for greenskins, so orcs is more than okay for me. But as I said, I'm up for anything (except skaven and lizardmen, I hate those races).

Mmm I suppose I could do the on-line tutorial thing, the one ring Rider of Rohan wil be done soon so that will free up some time. It would be cool if Ritual and one or two others that are absent members could take part. I have sent out an e-mail to all members but I think that for now we will go with the active members that have pledged their support and see if anyone else drops in along the way. So Orcs it is, now all we have to do is decide which ones and which game system.

Mmm Glenn the idea is consistency so Orcs are the order of the day now, cannot you spare a few pennies for charity . However with the consistency being of high importance someone is going to have to base the squad to keep the theme unless we have a set guide to basing the squad. Depending on how many minis we are talking about I could get in touch with spacemunkie and aquire that number of a type of base for the minis.

|
|
Post by mutantpotato on Dec 7, 2006 21:57:20 GMT
For the bases, we could just use GW sand, and set a guide to how paint the sand to get the same tone. I just got a cool idea, we could make a display base for all the minis. We can use a wooden plague as the base(see photos), and then drill holes for the mini-bases. And of course make the base look realistic with high and low spots, trees, fences, destroyed tanks, dead enemies etc. If this idea sounds cool, I would like to to the display base, especially if we do something from WH40K. Here's photos of what I had in mind for the display base: Example of a finished display base (by Victoria Lamb): What do you think of the display base idea?
