I think Tim and a few other OR members will easily remember my 1st mini, it was only january 06 when i started the hobby and i think i posted haldir around march 06. It was a weird beginning, i tried oils first and it was a nightmare and then i went to GW for tips, ended up buying a load of acrylic and proceeded from there. Thus i ended up buying acetone and the haldir you will see had 3 baths in it before i said enough was enough ;D Anyway, i hope there is a noticable difference to my most recent LotR mini, 'boromir'. I have used LotR as that is what i collect and i think once all the recent competitions are over it is all you will see me paint, i have looooooads of them to do and especially for my high elf army....enjoy

Yes I remember well, it was a pleasure then and still is a pleasure to see your works. Unlike me you seem to improve massively with each mini. Long may it last.

Wow amazing Jnr, it breaks my heart to see that you've only being painting just over a year and producing mini's of that quality!
Your first mini, is better than anything I could produce after painting for the best part of ten years. Just goes to show that talent has a big part to play.
Looking forward to seeing more of your masterpiece's

The firs one is pretty good but the boromir is amazing! The black cloth is outstanding.

Both are excellent, but you have improved your lighting source dramatically.

Both are excellent, but you have improved your lighting source dramatically. I've found daylight to give me the best results for my figures now, i wait for a bright cloudy day (if that makes any sense) before i take any pics. I suppose it's proper as i make all my painting judgements in daylight even though i'm painting late at night under a halogen light.... thanx to you all for having a look

The first thing that struck me is that you have improved your photography (and lighting) very much. Maybe more so, even, than your painting as the first one is very good too. Boromir is better, but above all, it's much better photographed.

doh! (in a homer voice) ;D ;D ;D, thanx matty, buying a decent digital camera went miles towards improving pics, but put a large dent in the bank balance. fortunately i needed it for work so i don't feel too bad

I'm in the process of getting a new camera too. Hopefully my photos will be better as I'm never really happy with how the photos look. My old camera is probably 7 years old or so.

I wanted a camera for minis then thought to myself (and told everybody else) I could use it for college. Needless to say, my mini's look great on screen now

;D Now i've realised the lens that came with a basic package (Canon 400D) is not of the quality the camera deserves, fortunately the missus agrees and she loves her photography, so we now have a razor sharp 35mm EF lens on order, nothin' to do with minis of course Ritual, i would highly recommend the Canon, it took me a long time to give up my old Canon and Nikon 35mm's to go digital but this camera is so capable at entry level SLR taht some pros use it in preference to the 30D, it's lighter, simpler to use and lots cheaper... but don't buy the lens package, it's not very good, opt for a quality lens in the size you prefer most.

I have allready picked out what I'm going to buy, and I can't afford an SLR, I'm afraid. But, it's a Canon, although a PowerShot A710 IS. I know several people who use it to great effect to photograph minis. You can set everything manually on it, which is a nice feature to have. And from what I heard it's very good at reproducing colours accurately.

If it's only for minis an slr is a bit extravagant! i don't think you'll be disappointed with your choice, a good idea is to read the reviews on dc review www.dcviews.com/_canon/a710.htm

The main reason I buy it is for minis, yes, as my old camera doesn't cut it IMO and it's starting to show signs, although very slight still, at snuffing it! But, of course, it should be a decent allround camera too, but I have no doubts about this camera in that respect. But, I'll check some reviews on that site before making the final call! Thanks!
