Just finished reading this book by Tad Williams, I have to say that it has been a pleasure to read. I find Tad's stuff really deep and some of his earlier books take a lot of reading. This one however seemed to flow. The story jumps about alot at first introducing different people in different places. This is done however very skilfully and it never detracts from the overall story. The further you get into the book the more it starts to come together as you would expect. The story is the typical good against evil type scenario the good being the Humans from the various places in the land that the story takes place. The evil are the ancient fairy folk who many years passed lost the land in a war against the mortals, they put up a barrier the Shadowline basically a line of mist to mark the boundaries between the land of the Mortals and the land of the Old Ones. The time has now come for the Old Ones to take back what was theirs. I am really looking forward to picking up the next book on Friday and continuing with what is turning out to be a compelling story. This is Tad Williams at his best and to mind mind his best book/s since the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn tale.
