Today I decided to take a look at the miniatures I still have laying in my drawers, and because there are many I counted the number still unpainted. Totally I have more than 300 miniatures (excluding 2 batallion boxes), with no paint on them at all This shocked me a bit. Especially, since starting 3 years ago, I only finished painting about 10 miniatures . So I think I have a problem. Therefore I decided to make a pledge: To not buy any new miniatures until I painted at least 50 miniatures... But I'll need your help! I think I will need all the encouragement as I can get, because seeing all those marvelous miniatures on internet just makes me druel. So do any of you guys recognise these issues. If so, can you give me some advice on keeping my wallet closed ? Thanks!

certainly do, i'll take a photo of my pile one day. tbh, i didn't find it difficult to draw the line and stop buying more though! I still see stuff i want - avatars of war entire range is quite enticing! the trick is to remember the current pile whenever you reach for the wallet and remember it will just sit there. Having said that if its something you really want to paint, get it and the same day prime it ready to go and put it on the desk!!

I've got a lower shelf on my desk that has 4 boxes of miniatures on it, one of which one it's own has over 100 miniatures in it. Ta da! That's not even all of them. I have a squad of harlequins, space marine scouts, and some others that are sitting on my desk without boxes. I can't really go into a GW store without wanting to buy a model, so all i do is go in and don't leave the supply area. The models don't look as tempting (but still really tempting) from the other side of the store, and don't go to that side. Or i send someone else to get my supplies >.> When sitting at your computer, don't go to a site that sells minis, or at least to the section that has the buy buttons. I know it's tempting, but try to controll yourself. I go to the cmon site all the time, but never go into the store. Your goal is a little more lenient then mine. I'm trying to not buying anything else until all my projects are done. Just stay focused and with your eye on the prize (and that's your soon to be new models!)

I think the stuff i have I'm looking forward most to painting are.....
1) Giant (plastic kit) 2) Wolfen - lots of them 3) bard of Alohan (or however you spell it!!) 4) Various goblin rackham) characters 5) Giants of Albion boxed set 6) Rhino - just because i aint done a big tank vehicle yet! 7) Dreadnought (for my howling griffons)
I'll add the next three later after i have rooted around a bit more.....

Tututu scarecrow! Already forgetting about the goal one day after posting! Nice choices though I'm with you on the Rackham goblins dfb. In fact, I have about 50 Rackham miniatures to be painted (they were on sell for just 3 euros a piece, couldn't resist back then). I'm really crazy about the range. Thing is, I like most of the minis I own so much that I'm reluctant to paint them cause I'm scared to ruin them...

I am definitely guilty of picking up models when I am feeling grumpy. As for resisting the urge altogether, that's a bit tougher. I am somewhat fortunate in that since I don't actually game, I am less tempted to get get a whole set of twenty models. I've still managed to rack up a nice little collection though...I don't have any really good answers to the question. I do a fair bit of online contest painting, so I try and limit myself to models I plan on entering in one thing or another. That helps on two fronts; it limits what I get and it gives me a deadline to paint it in. Try that, Magie--select something from your current pile to paint for a contest. There is one monthly over at the WaMP forums and often there are Christmas/winter contests in several spots. If you really want to put yourself under the gun, take a look at Wyrd's Iron Painter contest. That contest gives you about 2 weeks or so to complete a mini as you go head to head with another contestant. If you win you advance to the next round. Last IP had 6 or 7 rounds I believe.

That´s a great idea Jabberwocky! I´ve been thinking that doing online competitions is really great for me. Not only to finish painting some models, but also to get more feedback on my painting. I´ve followed the IP this year, standards are extremely high but the genres are definitely great!

I´ve followed the IP this year, standards are extremely high but the genres are definitely great! That's the cool part of IP--the standards can be high, but especially in the beginning you could do well. With the short prep times, though, there is the off chance of a competitor not finishing which means you will automatically advance! They also have brought people back before as well when they end up with an odd number of contestants.
