As pledged to the Children in Need 07community project, I have started making the scenic base for a squad of 5 models. The following picture shows the project in its initial cutting out stage (the models are there for demonstration purposes only and are not a part of my contribution). An additional hole for a model lies under the steps at the rear, but still needs cutting out to fit a 25mm base. Having gotten this far, I can see immediately that I will need to make 5 scenic bases to fit the holes in the display base and ship them over to Tim for him to stand the squad on, otherwise it would look odd.

Nice start mate, I am very pleased that you can do this for us and look forward to seeing this progress, I will be making a start on my contribution very soon, as soon as I have one or two other things completed and will get a WIP thread going as soon as I have something tangible to show.

looking very good Alan !
Do you think you could make like a small guide later, showing how you base the Orks so we know how to base ours, so they match each other?
thanks,
Razh

Moved things along a little today. Just getting the basic shapes cut out at the moment, and afterwards will start putting in the finer details.

Wow is all I can say, at such an early stage this is already proving to be one hell of a centerpiece.

Moving right along... This is the first terrain project I have undertaken in several months and it has proven to be very theraputic - the stresses of my working life jus melt away within seconds of picking up the model and the polyfilla. I am really enjoying myself! Here's an update: The basic shape is done, now its just a matter of filling in the details and smoothing off the stonework. The rear of the building needs some work also, and when I get some more done I'll post another update.

Great stuff this is realy starting to take shape and from this early stage I can see it will well deserve to take center stage for the army.

The model is finished now and the undercoat is drying in my shed as I type. I'll start painting it tomorrow. Here are some shots of the completed (but unpainted) model:

Thanks lads, I have had a great time making this and the timing was perfect - I had a small window of time available to me just before Christmas and I couldn't possibly think of a better use to put it to.
Thanks to everyone for coming up with the idea of a Children in Need project and getting so enthusiastic about it - its an inspiring feeling to be a part of something like this.
I am going to paint it today, so let's hope I don't [word deleted] it up.

Beautiful work, what colours did you use for the ruin I always struggle thinking of alternatives to grey. Fantastic job mate.
